Brand Product Safety and Testing

NaturalOur goal here at Precious Mineralz is to provide our customers with both safe and effective skin care products. We formulate them with both natural ingredients as well as chemically synthesized ingredients.  Natural ingredients may produce skin sensitivities so we also incorporate chemically synthesized ingredients with strong, proven safety profiles.  For example, you will see use of natural ingredients such as the Halloysite Clay, Essential Oils, Humectants, Waxes, Extracts, Moisturizing Oils, Vitamins, Sea Salt, Peptides, Thickeners (Gums and starches) used in the food industry, and Preservatives that are either natural  or synthetic to provide adequate shelf life to the products. Other ingredients may be chemically synthesized but provide desired properties such as moisturizing, non greasy feeling and produce stable oil in water emulsions.  They all have strong, proven safety profiles and have been used for many years in cosmetic, skin care and personal care products.

 All products are Cruelty Free.
No ingredients, blends or finished products are tested on animals.  We believe in cruelty free testing. Laboratory in vitro  test methods have been used to test the Halloysite Clay powder and finished products for Dermal Irritation.
In Vitro Skin Irritation: Reconstructed Human Epidermis Test Method” (TG 439).
The goal is to use an human epidermis model was used for identification and classification of skin irritation hazard assay that was “cruelty free” for determining skin irritation potential. The EpiDerm TM reconstructed according to the United Nations (UN) Globally Harmonized System (GHS). Briefly, toxicity is determined by measuring the relative conversion of MTT ( 3-(4,5 – dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2.5- diphenyltetrazolium bromide) to a formazan product in the test article treated tissues (Halloysite Powder, finished product) for a sixty minute exposure time, followed by a 42-hour post exposure expression period. The assay protocol used meets the requirements of the OECD guideline, “In Vitro Skin Irritation: Reconstructed Human Epidermis Test Method” (TG 439).

A test material or article is predicted to be an irritant (GHS Category 1 or 2) if the mean relative viability of the treated tissues is less than or equal to 50% of the mean viability of the negative control.  If the mean viability is greater than 50% of the mean viability of the negative control than it is predicted to be a non- irritant.

The Halloysite Powder resulted in 100% mean viability predicting it to be a non-irritant.  This is very important in a skin care product since it comes in contact with skin and remains in contact while it is absorbed into the skin. The finished products had results showing >90% mean viability also predicting them to be non-irritants.

  All products are Vegan.

Precious Mineralz products contain no animal derived ingredients.  They are therefore considered vegan. For example they do not contain milk, lanolin, eggs, honey, and gelatin.

 All products are Talc Free.
Talc is a mined mineral made up of magnesium, silicon, oxygen and hydrogen. Published scientific information dating as far back as the 1960s has suggested a possible association between the use of powders containing talc and the incidence of ovarian cancer. The FDA continues research in this area as well as research focused on possible contamination of talc with asbestos. Asbestos is also a mineral that can be found in close proximity to talc. For more information about concerns related to talc and/ or talc/asbestos visit http://www.fda.gov/cosmetics/cosmetic-ingredients/talc

All products are Parabens Free.

Parabens have been used as preservatives in cosmetics to protect the consumer and the product against harmful mold and bacteria; they improve shelf life. Parabens are known endocrine disruptors that can mimic estrogen in the body. Some studies have shown that parabens can affect the mechanisms of normal breast cells and potentially influence their abnormal growth, "Although estrogen plays a role in breast cancer, there's no evidence that people who use paraben-containing products face an increased risk. In 2004, however, a small study found traces of parabens in breast cancer tissue, reigniting concern about these chemicals." All products are Phthalate Free.

Phthalates have been historically used in cosmetics and personal care products. It is not clear what effect they have, if any at all, on human health. It has been concluded that reproductive risks from exposure to phthalates is minimal to negligible in most cases. For more information about phthalates visit www.fda.gov/cosmetics/cosmetic-ingredients/phthalates

All products are Sulfate Free.

Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) also known as Sodium Docecyl Sulfate (SDS) and Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES) are Surfactants.  They have been widely used in numerous industries including food and cosmetics.  They have been used in cosmetics, especially cleansers to "strip" oils from skin.  But they may actually work too effectively and are harsh ingredients. There are other surfactants that are as effective but are gentler, so they are now being used in creams and other skin care products.

All products are Dye Free and contain no Artificial Flavors, Fragrance or Colors.

Products are all white to light tan in color due to the natural color of ingredients. Products do contain fragrance from Essential Oils. They are incorporated into the formulations because of the specific properties they offer (i.e. Lavender Essential Oil for soothing/relaxation, and Peppermint Essential Oil for energizing.
